Open Letter To: Anti-death penalty activists, groups, organizations, and general sympathizers of the anti-death penalty movement
From: Death Row Community
To All Concerned;
We here on Death Row sincerely thank you for all of your time, effort, and energy, in trying to help end the barbaric and bias practice of State Sanctioned Murder. We realize that this is a hard fought battle to bring an end to this practice and injustice, to those of us who have been wrongly convicted. We seek, through this letter and requested action(s), not to deny justice to any victim(s) of any crime. Yet, we know that the death penalty is not an answer for seeking justice, for man is too fallible to administer such a final outcome as death without some biased stance. This has been shown in light of all the recent events of DNA exonerations, withheld exculpatory evidence, evidence discarded and locked away for years, and unreliable identification testimony, which despite all evidence to the contrary of its unreliability, continues to send innocent men/women to their deaths. Again, in short, man is too fallible. Man should not be allowed to play God with our lives. This action by us, the death row community, is a call to help, and a call to action. If successful, we can end the death penalty. Without financial support no program can survive. The goal of this action of Tax Dollar Against the Death Penalty is apparent. This goal is not unrealistic, for many groups and organizations routinely protest how their tax dollars are being spent. And when that group or organization comprises a sizable and/or influential voting block, action is sure to be taken. Otherwise, the politico and political party who opposes tax payer/voter block driven action pay a political price i.e., they are voted out of office and someone who will see the will of the people at least those who partake of this tax payer/voter action is voted into office.
From the perspective of the death row community, and especially in the year of elections, we know that any action taken by the people, if it cant translate into voters, rarely will see any positive action come from the endeavors. This included petition drives especially in the case of clemency which went unnoticed and fell on deaf ears. Our actions are virtually ignored. The ideal apparatus for this course of action, for the implementation of a voter initiative such as this is already in place. Make no mistake, if this action is not taken as a voter initiative it is doomed to failure; but as stated, the course of action (voter initiative) already has a ready made apparatus in place and can be quickly utilized if properly done. This apparatus is, of course, The Texas Moratorium Network! This network has a wide range of groups and organizations from the mainstream, to the not so mainstream, to the grassroots. What we are asking is that you add your name, group and/or organization to this action. We already realize that you are tired and overtaxed (no-pun intended), but hopefully, youll be reenergized, as we are, and help pass/copy this call to action to provoke a voter initiative to protest tax dollars against the death penalty. We need you to take this action to those both in and out of the Moratorium Network. Encourage them to adopt this plan, copy it, tailor it and make it their own for their own group, organization or association, and join together to help get this done.
We are strong together. None of us want to lose any more precious lives to this Texas Killing Machine. We dont want to see any more Shaka Sankofas (Gary Graham), Ponchai Kamau Wilkersons, Napoleon Beazlys, Kealsy Pettersons, or Karla Fay Tuckers, murdered in the name of Texas Justice. Sadly, all of these cases were financed with the hard-earned dollars (tax) that you all have. We all loved them, knew them, grew with them, and endured this horrific process with them, plus many more victims to this barbaric practice who may not be well known. We here, the death row community, knew them and we lament their deaths and are doing the best we can, along with you, to prevent any others. If people want our deaths OUR MURDER so badly, then let them pay for it! Let them put their money where their beliefs are! But, for those of you who are abhor murder in any form, you should never be made to pay for murder never! In closing, we, the death row community, thank you for your strength, support, and prayers. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Death row community
